How to Grow Mushrooms

I have written this article because I wanted to share my experiences with growing mushrooms and also to help those who are just starting out in the hobby. This is not a guide that teaches you how to grow mushrooms, but rather it gives you tips and information on what to do when growing them.

First of all you need to decide what type of mushroom you want to grow. There are many different types of mushrooms to choose from. The most popular being the Oyster, which is very easy to grow and will give you a good yield. The next is the Shiitake, which is an extremely hardy mushroom and will give you a high yield. Finally there is the button, which is the easiest to grow but will only produce a small yield.

When choosing your species, make sure that you choose something that you like to eat. You can get a lot of enjoyment out of growing these mushrooms and they are very tasty. It is also a great way to save money as you will not need to buy any other ingredients.

Once you have decided on your species, you need to decide where you want to grow them. They can be grown indoors or outdoors. If you choose to grow them outdoors you will need to consider the weather conditions and the temperature that you are going to be growing them at. Some mushrooms do not like too much heat so if you live in a cold climate you may find that growing them indoors is the best option for you.

You will also need to consider the location that you are going to grow them. You can grow them in a place that is not too close to a building or house so that they do not get damaged by people walking around the area. They can be grown anywhere as long as the location is safe.

After you have chosen the location, you need to prepare the space that you are going to grow the mushrooms. This is very important as the spores that are released when the mushrooms are grown will float around the room and spread everywhere. Make sure that you clean up any loose dirt or debris that is lying around the space so that you do not contaminate your crops.

If you have chosen to grow your mushrooms indoors then you will need to think about lighting. This is very important as mushrooms require light in order to grow properly. They also require some sort of darkness in order to complete their life cycle. In order to keep your mushrooms healthy you will need to provide a dark environment. You can use black plastic or cardboard to create a dark environment.

When growing mushrooms you will need to feed them with something called compost. This is a mixture of sawdust and woodchips. This will supply the nutrients that the mushrooms need to grow.

After you have prepared the space and provided the right nutrients you are ready to start growing your mushrooms. All you need to do is put the compost into the container and then cover it with some sort of material such as paper towels. Make sure that the towel does not touch the surface of the compost as this will block the light. Leave the towel on for a few days before adding more compost.

After you have added the compost, you need to water the compost. This will help the compost to release the nutrients that the mushrooms need. You can add water to the compost and leave it for a few days before changing it again. When watering the compost make sure that you do not overwater as this will kill your crop.

The next step is to remove the towel. This will allow the mushrooms to grow. Once the mushrooms start to grow, you can remove the towel and place the container in a dark area. If you do not have a dark area, you can place the container under a desk or a table.

As you can see this is a very simple process to follow. You can follow the steps outlined above and you should have no problems growing mushrooms.
